Trauma is a time-sensitive emergency. Patient outcomes are often determined within the first minutes following injury, making rapid assessment and early intervention critical components of trauma care.

The primary objective of trauma management is to quickly identify and address life-threatening conditions before they lead to irreversible shock, organ failure, or death. Providers must be able to recognize immediate threats to life, prioritize treatment decisions, and perform interventions that have the greatest impact on survival.

The PHTLS approach emphasizes a systematic assessment process that focuses on identifying and treating the most critical injuries first. By recognizing life threats early and intervening rapidly, providers can significantly improve patient outcomes and reduce preventable trauma deaths.

Throughout this course, the concepts of rapid assessment, prioritization, and early intervention will serve as the foundation for effective trauma care.
